Good News
Get crafty, ward off mosquitoes, hop into a vintage Rolls, and more

written by Melissa Bigner

Bees aren’t the only ones buzzing around this summer. There’s wedding news aplenty flying through town. Read on for the scoop. And if you have tidbits to share, please e-mail mbigner@charlestonmag.com.

Do Me a Favor
Keys for Hope (843/270-5722; www.Facebook.com/KeysForHope) is ready to add their crafty touch to your wedding. Founded by Mount Pleasant schoolkids, the group has raised $30,000-plus for Charleston’s homeless shelter, Crises Ministries, by decorating and selling keys, which they say symbolize shelter. Brides can commission keys dressed in their wedding colors or style, and gift them to guests with a note explaining a donation has been made in their honor.

Get Crafty
Craftiness continues in West Ashley where SpaceCraft Studios (843/284-6253; www.SpaceCraftStudios.com) offers classes in everything from making terrariums (centerpiece, anyone?) to embroidery and much, much more. Have a wedding craft but need the workspace for you—and your ’maids? Book time there and the craftacular queens will be ready to walk you through whatever task is at hand and let you use their artsy equipment.

Say “See Ya” to Bugs
The battle against pests continues this summer with ThermaCELL’s (www.ThermaCell.com) new line of battery-operated mosquito-repellant outdoor lanterns, ranging from $22-$32. Available locally at Home Depot, WalMart, and Bass Pro Shops, the lanterns emit a repellant similar to that found naturally in chrysanthemums. Sounds like they might be just the thing your outdoor ceremony needs.

Enjoy the Presidential Treatment
The etiquette specialists at Dulles Designs (843/805-7166; www.DullesDesigns.com) have not only remodeled their Church Street stationery shop, but they’ve also welcomed a new staff addition, Brook Holladay Peters. Brook served as director of presidential messages for the White House Office of Correspondence of President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, and will certainly give you the white-glove treatment, too.

Have a Drink
This spring, fire may have destroyed Squeeze Bar’s downtown spot on East Bay Street, but rest assured, not only are they rebuilding, their bartending arm for hire, Squeeze OnSite (843/718-1387; www.Squeeze-OnSite.com), is still operating fully (and luxuriously) for events.

Cruise On
You know you’d look great in a snow-white 1961 Rolls Royce limo, and that your groom would be thrilled with such a getaway car. So whether you’re heading back and forth from church to ceremony, or just want to scoot away from your reception in style, check out ACW Limo’s (843/763-3296; www.ACWLimo.com) latest set of wheels.

Pretty Place
Stop by the newly opened Pink Dot Beauty Bar (843/637-4111; www.PinkDotBeautyBar.com) at 227 Meeting Street for treats galore (park in the public garage at Hasell; they will validate your ticket). Whether it’s a skin care boost, mini makeover, or waxing and body treatments, the chic three-story emporium is all about friendly service and getting your girl power rebooted. Nice!
