This just in... Proposal on the BCS runway!!
OK so armies of fabulous frocks just made their way down the runway at our second annual Bridal Couture Show, but there’s something we need to go over first… One of the models got engaged! On the runway!! That’s right… After Caylin Curry (hope the spelling is correct!) rocked it in a Gown Boutique mermaid gown, Style Editor Ayoka Lucas grabbed her from backstage and brought her out along with Editor Melissa Bigner to close the show. After the thank yous were through, Ayoka asked Caylin about her boyfriend, if she had one, etc… Before said bf hopped up on stage (in his dashing uniform) and presented his sweetheart with a knockout ring! To say it was romantic is an understatement! When I caught up with Caylin and her new fiancé backstage, all she could say was, "I’m shaking! I'm shaking!"
There was another lucky lady in the audience this morning, too. Kristina, who won a pair of tickets to the show, also won the first raffle giveaway: a backstage makeover! Although Kristina’s September 2010 nuptials will be a breezy beach affair, Stella Nova showed her the glam side of "I do" ‘dos with voluminous curls and punchy red lipstick. Better photos of this beauty are coming soon! Speaking of glam, let’s get onto the shows! After Brides.com editor Anne Chertoff presented tips for choosing the right gown, models showed us the hautest trends.
Belle Couture Bridal began the show with elegant pleating and dramatic bustles in classic silhouettes like ball gowns and mermaids before Daniel Island boutique White sent traditional shapes featuring funky additions, like pockets, down the runway. Columbia boutique Bella Vista Bridal continued adding the unexpected, like Asian-inspired flower detailing, to familiar shapes, too.
But after we returned from break, it was like a whole other show. Jodi Moylan, owner of White, joined forces with Charleston Formal Wear, affiliated with Berlin’s, to present her own Haute Couture line. Imagine a rock concert during which gorgeous guys in chic suits and power-punching women in avant-garde gowns parade on stage. Gown Boutique of Charleston answered the punky vibe with a too-cute flower girl and models full of fierce attitude. All in all, it was a show to remember. Keep your eyes on www.charlestonfashionweek.com for photo galleries, and we promise to give you the detailed rundown of all the latest styles after we catch our breath!
