Real Wedding: Uptown Rustic
Style and good taste are always nice, but we love to see a couple’s personality shine through their wedding design. Kathryn Copeland and Michael McGraw may hail from Atlanta, but their nature-loving Southern style brought them to Charleston for a wedding that was as natural and laid-back as the couple themselves.

The duo said their vows on November 14, 2008 on Boone Hall Plantation’s Cotton Dock and rallied in the barn after for a rustic but oh-so-chic reception designed by Marlene Hager Events.
*Kathryn and her mom, Brenda Copeland, asked Marlene to create an “enchanted, whimsical, and rustic” soirée using deep reds and forest greens. “Kathryn’s mom brought a lot of Atlanta high-style, while Kathryn kept things natural,” says Marlene.
*Floral arrangements by Charleston Flower Market included grapevines, white roses, and white hydrangeas accented with deep orange berries, bunched together with taffeta.
*A four-layer caramel cake designed by Cakes by Anne Sineath of Atlanta looks elegantly delicious while still highlighting the reception’s woodsy ambiance.
*Hors d’oeuvres crafted by Cru Catering included fish tacos and down-home shrimp and grits. Cru gave Kathryn and Michael the liberty to personalize their menu.
*Kathryn’s gown from Jean’s Bridal and earrings from Belle Couture Bridal were decidedly her—soft, elegant, and unpretentiously gorgeous.
*The Root Doctors of Columbia, played The Grateful Dead for the couple’s first dance, a sentimental choice of Kathryn’s.
*With a guest list of 135, Marlene kept things intimate with candlelit tables and soft, unfussy table settings.
“The entire feel of the wedding was laid back and relaxed with a strong appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors,” says Kathryn McGraw. “Our wedding was everything I dreamed it would be—celebrating with close friends and family in a beautiful, intimate woodland setting.

Why don't you check out the second aisle in from the meat section at Harris Teeter (downtown location)? They have grits—both yellow and white—from the Lowcountry that I bet would be perfect.
Great idea! We're researching the grit quandry and will post our answer ASAP. Look for a lead this week!
And by the way...congratulations!
Melissa
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gorgeous pictures--beautiful setting!
I am looking to fill mason jars with grits as my favor. Any ideas on where would be good place to buy a large quantity of grits? Not being someone who consumes grits I have no idea what a good brand is.
