Flashback Wedding of the Week

Marianne Laplante & Emre Scarlata, September 20, 2008

Evans Craddock

Have you ever been to one of those weddings that make you want to curl up with some ice cream, watch Cinderella, and daydream about Monique Lhuillier? Me either, but I have seen pictures of one. Enter Marianne and Emre. The Charleston natives’ late summer plantation ceremony had all the makings of a dreamy affair.

With the help of W.E.D.’s Ellen Robinson, the five o’clock nuptials kicked off with Marianne riding in a horse drawn carriage to the historic—and private—Fenwick Hall Plantation and walking down an aisle of rose petals and lavender to The Voices of Deliverance’s version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Nice stuff. After their “I dos,” the pair, along with their two adopted Chihuahuas, joined family and friends at the River Course on Kiawah where they danced to Frank Sinatra covers from The Del Baroni Orchestra, noshed on traditional plantation menu fare, and even sampled a Ghirardelli sundae bar (paying homage to their courtship in San Francisco) along with huge cones of freshly spun cotton candy.

Apparently, dreams do come true.
