Spring Awakening

I don’t know about y’all, but I am thrilled about this spring. Why? Fashion, of course. From designer trunk shows (Vera Wang and Melissa Sweet, to name a few) to full-fledged fashion shows, you brides are bound for fabulousness. And your ’maids? Color them stunning, too.

Get Out There!

I’m a little jealous of you brides-to-be out there. From the trunk shows galore (everywhere) to the fun floral classes (stems) you ladies have a LOT to look forward to. And how about the new King Street makeup shop, The Cos Bar?

Flashback Wedding of the Week

Remember that scene in Steel Magnolias where bride-to-be Shelby turned to her mother and declared, “my colors are blush and bashful?” Well, Amy and Jonathan’s whimsical Lowndes Grove wedding reminds me of it.  Both weddings—one factual, one fictitious —had dainty pink palettes, but thankfully, Amy did not follow Shelby’s lead and serve a groom’s cake in the shape of an armadillo.

Melissa Bigner
Charleston Weddings Magazine editor Melissa Bigner is one of those lucky people who came to the city on a break and never left. She says staying in an atelier on a cobblestone street downtown where carriage horses clomped by hourly had her at “Hello.” A longtime journalism nut, she’s taken turns as a staff and/or freelance writer, editor, and/or photostylist with Better Homes & Gardens Decorating, Coastal Living, Cottage Living, Home, Southern Accents, and Southern Living, among others. She’s also written books for Better Homes & Garden, Cooking Light, Health, HGTV and TLC, and worked on Southeastern travel guides for Moon Handbooks and Fodors. Her next book, Simple Southern Bouquets, is due out in early 2010. Melissa, who is senior editor at Charleston and Charleston Home magazines, came to edit Charleston Weddings in 2006. She says she loves working with the Lowcountry’s ridiculously talented and generous vendors and creative teams to pull together gorgeous stories set against what she thinks is the most romantic backdrop in the South. Got a great idea, location, question, wish, or some such? Let her know!

Nicole Noble
The College of Charleston’s Spanish moss and brick walkways lured Charleston Weddings magazine editorial assistant Nicole Noble to the area in 2005. Two years later, she joined the Charleston Weddings magazine staff as an editorial intern and hasn’t left since. Besides pouring over hundreds of fab fêtes submitted to the title (tough job, eh?), she has covered décor for Charleston Home magazine, events for Charleston magazine, and politics for The George Street Observer (CBS.com ran one of her wire stories), in addition to copy editing the book Simple Southern Bouquets. But her fave beat remains weddings. “Sometimes I can’t believe what couples come up with,” says Nicole. “There’s something about weddings that seems to bring out the creative gene in everybody.” Recently married? Email her to submit your own wedding for the announcements section of Charleston and Charleston Weddings mags.
