Charleston fashion designers are popping up all over the national fashion map!

Last night we celebrated two local Charleston Fashion Week designers in the most glamorous way at the Project Runway Viewing Party at Caviar and Bananas. Their debut was welcomed with shouts and applause! Now, our very own, Mary Porter House of Couture has been invited to participate in New York at the exclusive Southern Design Collections Trunk Show and media preview, "Fashion Secrets of the South" on Wednesday, August 26, 2009.  The invitation was extended by Leesburg PR, an Atlanta public relations firm who heard about Mary Porter Couture through Kevin Knaus, Vice President of Global Fashion and Trend Director for Material World, one the most important global textile, trim and apparel sourcing show in the Americas. Knaus is also special guest speaker at SoDe. After seeing several Mary Porter designs, Leesburg commented, "Wow, these are beautiful! I can see them on the red carpet at the Oscars now! " Now that's what I love to hear! Without a doubt Charleston is taking the fashion world by storm one designer at a time!

Thera M.

If you are a recessionista, like many fashion mavens these days you will love this! The Summer Sidewalk Sale kicks off today and runs through Sunday with vendors such as Thera M., Library Archives of Fashion, Marysia Swim, Chantilly, and Pearl! Discounts up to 75% off lingerie, dresses, shoes, skirts, swimwear and more all located just outside of Pearl at 453 West Coleman Blvd. Now this is a side-walk sale I would gladly rummage through!

Keep the shopping bug going! Make sure you participate in the 7 Stores 7 Days shop local event! With the condition of retail rapidly evaporating in our shopping district this could not have come at a better time! Now, it's time to stimulate the economy and you have an entire week to do it! O'Malley's Bar and Grille downtown has put together a weeklong charity event to benefit local businesses downtown and also local charity, Lowcountry Aids Foundation. Helmed, '7 Stores, 7 Days', starting August 22nd they will encourage masses of people to shop at seven different businesses for one week, a different store each day. Each business has agreed to pledge a certain percentage of sales for that day to Lowcountry Aids Foundation. August 29th, O' Malley's will host a 'Block Party' in their backyard where each patron will present a check to the charity. There will be live music by a local band, games, food provided by Birney's Foods and an after party inside with DJ Natty Heavy of 93 Jamz. The block party will be on August 29th and will run from 2pm to 2am. Seriously, the motivation is all here. So let's get to it Charleston!
