Society 1858 Winter Party: Graffiti in the Garden

February 10, 2017

The Party: Funky ultraviolet lights and metallic confetti greeted partygoers upon arrival at the Gibbes Museum of Art for Society 1858’s annual Winter Party. In honor of internationally acclaimed muralist Sergio Odeith, the main hall and Lenhardt Garden were adorned with street art-themed dêcor and auction items (including unique skateboard decks painted by local artists). Throughout the evening, guests took a break from the dance floor to sneak peeks at Odeith in action as he completed his newest artwork. The night concluded with an interactive break-dancing performance.

Highlight: Catching the first glimpse of Odeith’s onsite 10-by-12-foot mural, Charleston Strong

Overheard: “I love Camela Guevara’s use of knotted cording on her piece, Harness!”

Beneficiary: Society 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art award
