Charity Shrimp Boil at Down to Earth

Something that most people do not know about me is that I have a green thumb. I love growing flowering plants and happen to pretty good at it. So naturally, I was excited to attend the Charity Shrimp Boil benefiting Lowcountry AIDS Services at Down to Earth in Mt. Pleasant. If you aren’t familiar with this garden center, you are truly missing out.

I was greeted by a smiling face who happened to be Down to Earth owner Danny Berler, who gave me the run down on this evening’s festivities and also give me a heads up on the summer clearance sale that they were having. I walked into the garden oasis for this causal, fun-filled evening, and everyone was spread about, enjoying each other’s company. I ran into LAS executive director Brad Childs, who was hanging out under one of the many canopies enjoying a glass of wine and peel-n-eat shrimp. He greeted me with hugs and two kisses and introduced me to LAS supporters Mark Knight and Chris Cromer (interior and plantscape designers) with 2 Guys with an Eye. They gave me a couple of tips on how to care for my outdoor plants during the summer months. I have been having problems with some of my plants in this sweltering heat.

During my meet and greet, I was also introduced to Kathy Sweet and Jeanette Sink, who are the generous souls who bought the Shrimp Boil at a charity auction for the American Cancer Society and decided to use it to raise money for Lowcountry AIDS Services. What a great way to give back.

As guests finished off the last bottles of wine and traditional one-pot dish of shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes, a few of us did a little shopping to end the evening. I ended up purchasing a cute, little planter that will hang nicely in my kitchen.
