Memorable Spoleto Moments……

“My most memorable Spoleto moment was when the flamenco group came to the Gaillard three years ago.  While living in Spain, I would frequent outdoor cafes along the river that had flamenco singers that would play each night.  The locals would perform impromptu dances after becoming inspired by the music and aided on by a few glasses of red wine. So I was skeptical as to how genuine a planned performance would be.  But the dancers and singers played off of each other beautifully and their passion and spontaneity definitely was revealed in that night.  Not one cell phone rang.  Not one baby cried.  Everyone was in awe.”

“Afterwards we attended the Soiree in the ballroom and had a chance to watch the young flamenco dancers try out moving to American music.  I was with a few local dancers and we invited them to see a live salsa band at a restaurant downtown and taught them some salsa moves and a picked up a few flamenco moves as well.”

“My first festival event this year was going to Gene Glave’s masterful one women show ‘The Mammologues”. She gave a brilliant, poignant and realistic performance about her life with breast cancer and current remission. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world and recommend it to every women I know.”
