Here’s something Charleston brides have been waiting for: a wedding that’s a breeze. Breeze (843/991-2852; www.BreezeSC.com) offers wedding packages ranging from $12,500 (for 75 guests) to $19,500 (for 100 guests) in three styles: The Charleston, The Vintage, and The Windswept. Aimed specifically at brides on strict budgets, they team with area vendors to offer boutique service and designer looks. By the looks of their gorgeous and spell-it-all-out website, they nailed it.
If you’re on the hunt for an uber-Lowcountry location for your Big Day, the Sewee Preserve (843/881-7576; www.SeweePreserve.net) on the Awendaw side of Mount Pleasant is now open for weddings and has all our appointments for a country fete: live oaks surrounding a 50-acre lake, a rustic-chic lake house, outdoor pavilion, and access to a community dock overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway (portrait, anyone?). Find rates and a calendar of available dates online.
In town, those casting about for a classic rehearsal dinner or small reception location (for great rates) should definitely check out Upstairs at Midtown (843/737-4281; www.UpstairsAtMidtown.com). The exposed brick walls, coffered ceilings, hardwood floors, and expansive windows overlooking King Street offer one of the poshest options around. Look online for their catering menu and event furniture info.
A host of sweet shops have hung their shingles out since we last went to press. Georgetown’s Kudzu Bakery (843/284-8847; www.KudzuBakery.com), opened a Mount Pleasant satellite shop and their red velvet, pound, rum, coconut, and lemon cakes are picture-perfect and dying to hop up on a Big Day dessert buffet near you. Downtown, the pastries at Whisk (843/628-5954; www.WhiskCharleston.com) would be a great treat for a send-off brunch following a wedding; and we’d love to gather some of longtime favorite Normandy Farms’ (843/789-4509) sweets into little welcome or favor boxes for guests. Now that the latter has a Broad Street location, it’s all the more easy to access. Another cutie with sweet treats? P.I.E. Bake Shoppe (843/ 720-7467; www.PieCharleston.com) at Warren and King streets, with its adorable petit fours. And last but not least, Whisk (843/628.5954; www.WhiskCharleston.com) has opened on Meeting Street and we’re nuts over their sweet pastries and pretty baby tarts.
Some longtime favorites have jumped into the event design business. Shem Creek’s stationery and gift specialists Open House (843/766-2467; www.OpenHouseCharleston.net) is now putting on entire weddings for its loyal fan base. The dream-team florists at Tiger Lily (843/723-2808, downtown; 843/768-0090, Kiawah; www.TigerLilyFlorist.com) have not only opened a new location on Kiawah’s Freshfields Village, but they’ve also branched out in full-fledge wedding planning.
