Strike Two Against Childhood Obesity
The stars align for Louie’s Kids’ second annual Slim Down the South celebrity softball game

written by Melissa Tunstall

A Food Network chef, two former Bachelorettes, and Army Wives actors: the Joe’s never seen such an all-star roster! But when Louie’s Kids asked a bevy of luminaries, local and from off, to join a celebrity softball game to fight childhood obesity, they stepped up to the plate.

Childhood obesity has more than tripled over the past 30 years according to the Centers for Disease Control. But Louie’s Kids founder Louis Yuhasz is determined to do something about it. “Watch out America, because I swear we’re coming for you!” he says.

Louie’s Kids may have its sights set on making a difference across the nation, but this weekend, the organization is honing in on its home field: Charleston. In the batting line up are news anchors Carolyn Murray and Dean Stephens, Chopped chef Amanda Freitag, The Bachelorette contestants Roberto Martinez and Kiptyn Locke, former NBA Orlando Magic player Anthony Johnson, and Army Wives actors Richard Bryant and Terry Serpico. Watch the athletics and antics, sip on some brews, or stop by the healthy food station—and know that proceeds from the game will help fund Run Buddies, as well as support other Louie’s Kids programs. Sounds like a home run for Lowcountry health. Play ball!
