Ring in the Season!

The holidays are the perfect time to pop the question

Written by Jessica Maggart & Melissa Bigner

Right and left this time of year, we’re hearing about great proposals. Here are two of our favorites that we thought would warm your heart during the chilly season. And if you crave more, check out more great engagement stories here. If you’ve got a great one of your own, submit it by clicking here.

And speaking of good news, our Pillsbury® Pie Pop & More giveaway wrapped up last week and we got so fired up over all the entries we’re awarding two packages! Congrats go Andrea Horath—who in a bizarre twist is also one of our engagement story gals written up here today—and Krista Harbinson. For her part, Andrea said she accidentally broke the pie plate her soon-to-be father-in-law gave her when she got engaged and that she would love a replacement dish with special meaning. And Krista? “I would love to win the giveaway because I love to cook and bake and the pie pops would make the perfect affordable favor for my fall 2012 wedding,” she wrote. “As a bride on a budget—and who isn't these days?—I could really use something creative like this.” We hear you, ladies! A huge thanks to all who entered; 2012 will have a TON more giveaways. Stay tuned!

Sweet Songs & Scavenger Hunts
Andrea Elizabeth Horath said Yes! to Johnathan Stanford White September 3, 2011
Johnathan met Andrea when the two joined the College of Charleston’s concert choir. Their friendship grew until Johnathan professed his love and they began dating. Three years later, Johnathan called Andrea, and, knowing she was at her house, asked her look in her bedroom. There she found a single rose with a note directing her to follow a series of clues. “Perhaps there will be a surprise at the end,” he wrote. The hints took Andrea on a tour of 11 sites around Charleston that had significant meaning the couple. The last one led her to Pitt Street and told her to “Turn around ...” When she did Johnathan was there waiting. He got down on one knee and, as a carriage tour passed by, asked, “My life, my love, my heartbeat, would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” Andrea’s response? “Of course, silly. Yes!” The couple plans to wed in March 2013 at St. Philips Episcopal Church downtown.

Twice as Nice
Richelle Grant said “Yes!” to Cedric Williams August 16 … and September 3, 2011!
Richelle and Cedric both attended the University of South Carolina, but didn’t officially meet until seven years after graduating when Cedric sent Richelle a friend request on Facebook. She accepted and the pair messaged each other for hours; at the end of their missives that day, he asked if he could call her. The fast friends became a couple and dated long distance (he in Nashville, and she in Charlotte) until they moved to Newberry, South Carolina, where Cedric was offered a coaching position. Three months after their move, Cedric popped the question—not once, but twice. Proposal number one happened August 16 when Cedric surprised Richelle by coming home early, sitting her down, and telling her that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He said that even though the ring wasn’t completely ready, he was. He then got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Grinning from ear to ear, she said, “Yes!” Two weeks later on September 3, Newberry College hosted its first home game, and both of their families had come to cheer on the team. After the game, Cedric thanked everyone for joining them and then got down on one knee with a small navy blue box in his hand. With their families gathered around, Cedric asked his sweetheart, “Richelle Grant, will you marry me?” For the second time, she answered, “Yes!” The couple plans to wed on June 30, 2012, at the Emanuel AME Church on Calhoun Street.

Correction: In last week’s Bridal Buzz, we stated that the LulaKate sales event at Bella Bridesmaid included select shades marked down five percent off December 1-20. After that, from December 25-January 15, those same colors will be marked down to three percent off, not eight percent off as we had reported. We greatly regret the error and any inconvenience it may have caused shoppers or the shop.
