A Savory Stroll

“I love food. I think I’d be a chef if I wasn’t a painter,” says Shannon Runquist, the local creative who we got to know in Charleston’s July Artist Profile. In addition to a variety of still lifes, landscapes, and figures, Runquist—represented by Horton Hayes Fine Art—paints such treats as a strawberry shortcake, a banana split on the end of a pulley, a bowl of fresh shrimp, and a slice of lemon bobbing in a jar of iced tea.

And mouthwatering subject matter such as this happens to be a perfect fit for the Palette & Palate Stroll, coming up this Friday, July 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. During the annual fundraiser for the Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association’s visual arts scholarship, some of the city’s best restaurants pair up with nine galleries, serving up delicious bites as guests indulge in fine wine and peruse brand-new exhibits by nationally and internationally renowned artists.

This year, enjoy combinations including Helena Fox Fine Art and Anson, Smith Killian Fine Art and McCrady’s, and Ella Richardson Fine Art and Blu. At Horton Hayes, you’ll find savory eats from Oak offered up along with Runquist’s series of “Bite-Sized Paintings,” which, she says, “includes pieces inspired by family recipes and idioms.”
