New Home Boutique in Mt. Pleasant

Ellen McGauley

I happened upon a cool new boutique in Mount Pleasant today. It’s called Patina Blu, in Crickentree Village off Johnnie Dodds. I'ts brand spanking new, with the owners proud as peacocks as they greeted me and other customers. Upstairs is a design center, with fabric samples, wood flooring, and lots of room to sit down and figure things out. Overall, it says Charleston to me—old meets new meets coast meets formal.

  • Look for a good mix of antiques and new furniture, though it leaned more to the reproduction side. They’re expecting more antiques though so it will be fun to see how it balances out. I'm an antiques gal, but I actually liked some of their newer stuff better. A fabulous contemporary dining table greets you off to the left, which I think is well suited to styles new and old.
  • Lots of glassware along the back wall that seemed to me to have a coastal (or at least, a casual) bent. Not super high end, but adequate for entertaining for sure.
  • Their selection of vases was pretty diverse, from blue and white Chinese porcelain numbers to vibrant contemporary vessels. I really liked the way the latter seemed to light up the store.
  •  Plenty of wall art series.

But here’s what I liked best. Among a mostly traditional shop, they had some unexpected items I liked. First, these barrel planters. I assume that’s what they are?

Got a kick out of this driftwood turtle.

Also, this funky African root lamp caught my eye.
