Be A Designer for a Day
Always wondered how to reupholster something yourself ? We’ll show you how in the upcoming Spring/Summer issue (on newsstands mid-March), when we pair a part-time upholstery pro with an old armchair in need of a little TLC. We’re fired up about this story, mostly because the DIY approach helps solve both budget and labor issues.
In the meantime, we could use some help selecting the right fabric. The chair's owner is like me and has a soft spot for vintage, and I've pulled some samples that suit her style. She's narrowed them to the above group and we'd love to get your feedback. Interior designers welcome!

spray paint the frame black and use the polka dots. the other fabrics designs match the curvy lines of the chair, and both would detract from each other. it would drive me insane to look at all the curling, swerving, twirling, spinning lines.
I vote for #3; I am a blue/white person but really gave it a lot of thought! I also thought of painting the wood white.
I love #3. Classic and beautiful pattern for a classic and beautiful chair. The blue and white gives it a crisp, fresh look that works now and will still work in 20 years.
Another vote for number 5. F. Schumacher, Fuzz. Though we really need to see the room to decide, I like how the polka dots lighten up the chair.
#1 or #3...or maybe #2 or #4? I'm SO much help....I really like #1.
Paint it white!
I vote for #7. I like the contrast between the darker wood and lighter fabric.
Definitely #5 polka dots...this updated fabric will bring new life to a great old find!!!
Good luck!!!
polka dots, polka dots, polka dots !!!!!!!!
Polka Dots would be so much fun with such a traditional chair!
I think #2 is definitely the most vintage of the fabrics shown and more Victorian; but it really depends on the mood and color combo she is trying to achieve with this particular chair.
Well, I would say it depends upon the room she is putting it in and her colors. I like fabrics 3 and 4. 3 is a little more casual, in my opinion. 4 is neutral, will go with alot, and to me, is dressier.
LOVE #1 if you paint the wood white, but #3 is perfect for that dark wood!
I am kinda liking no.4 lee joffa. it has pattern but not too busy and the colors are very soothing. is the condition of wood good on the chair or does it need refinishing or even painted?
I personally love the Polka Dots. I think the yellow tones will pair well with the dark wood tones in the chair. My vote is for number 5. F. Schumacher, Fuzz. A modern yet chic tone to a timeless piece.
It has to be #3!!!
