The future is bright for solar power

By 2020, Craig Knowlton expects for solar power to be mainstream among area homes. After all, federal and state tax credits for solar panel installation currently add up to 55 percent for locals, explains the director of business development for Alder Energy Systems, and SCE&G is running an incentive program, too.

Alder Energy powered up in 2008 and has since installed systems for the Colleton Solar Farm, two Beaufort schools, businesses including the Carolina Ice Palace, and some 75 area homes. ”Most homeowners’ systems pay for themselves in five to seven years and then have another 25-plus years of life on them,” says Knowlton.
