About the Compeition

Mission

The Emerging Designer Competition: Southeast (EDCS) seeks and supports a community of up-and-coming and undiscovered talent in the realm of fashion. EDCS believes in the value of spotlighting a new generation of innovative designers and creators of this form of art in the multiple genres of fashion. The mission of the EDCS is to offer a platform for aspiring designers living in the Southeast to showcase their talent on the runway at Charleston Fashion Week® and gain the attention of national press and regional buyers.


Overview

Eight (8) designers will be chosen by the Fashion Panel as semifinalists and will show their full collections on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. The Fashion Panel will then select three (3) finalists to advance to Saturday evening. Upon selection on Tuesday night, finalists will be presented with a design challenge and asked to produce a garment or garments to present on the runway the final night. Finalists will have Wednesday – Saturday to complete their challenge. Charleston Fashion Week® will provide studio space and sewing machines.


People's Choice

Log on to www.charlestonfashionweek.com after Tuesday night’s Emerging Designer Semifinalist runway shows and choose your favorite designer. You may vote once per day through Saturday, March 20 at 6 p.m. The People’s Choice winner will be announced at the Fashion Finale and will receive a Bernina 220 sewing machine (valued at $1,099) from Fashion Fabrics.
