Party for the Pups
Unleash yourself and run with the cool island theme of the second annual Bow Wow Luau. Planet Bark, a local doggy day care, is hosting a howling good time at the Landing at Shem Creek, where you can sip on tropical drinks and dine on fare from favorite I’On eatery the Square Onion. While grooving to live music, join in the raffle for a chance to win great prizes ranging from fine dining to gourmet doggy treats.
The luau benefits Wild Heir Labrador Rescue (WHLR), a local nonprofit founded in 2005 to rescue abused and abandoned Labrador retrievers. The staff at WHLR placed 250 dogs in homes last year, ensuring that each dog received vet treatment, socialization, and training before being adopted.
“We take in so many dogs who have been neglected. They come to us shy, afraid, and often sick,” says WHLR vice president Melissa Gray. “Watching the light come back into their eyes as their body and spirits begin to heal is a true gift.”
The luau, as well as other smaller fundraisers throughout the year, helps to support WHLR initiatives, including Daisy’s Place, which finds families for senior pooches. Sniffing around for a new pal of your own? Plenty of furry friends will be at the party looking for foster parents and forever homes.
The Landing on Shem Creek, 100 Church St., Mount Pleasant.
Friday, 7-11pm. $25; $20 advance.
