Who but the Charleston Library Society could draw former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Sandra Day O’Connor; Federal District Court Judge Mark Wolf; and William Hedgcock Webster, current chairman of Homeland Security Advisory Council for a public event? During this remarkable evening, Judge Wolf speaks on rule of law and judicial independence, with specific reference to an original letter within the library’s collection written by Chief Justice John Marshall on the day in 1801 that he swore in Thomas Jefferson as president. Justice O’Connor will be presented with a reproduction copy of the library’s “Fundamental Constitutions of Carolina” by John Locke before a reception.
