Gifted high school students present the creative results of three weeks at Redux’s Summer Art Institute.
What happens when truly talented high schoolers spend three weeks at Redux Contemporary Art Center with professional local artists like Robert Lange, Seth Curcio, and Brian Kane? Find out at the “Summer Art Institute Exhibit,” which gives an inspiring peek at some budding Lowcountry creatives whose careers you’d be wise to keep an eye on.
In June, 30 high schoolers attended the institute, a six-year-old collaboration between Redux and the Charleston County School District. During 15 days of intense training, they created the oil paintings, drawings, and sculptures on display at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art. “It’s amazing to see what students can do when they’re provided the opportunity, encouragement, and materials for pursuing a life in the arts,” says Redux executive director Karen Ann Myers. “In fact, many former participants have gone on to attend prestigious arts colleges and establish successful careers.”
And by perusing their works, you can assist in their education. “At the exhibit, students experience what it’s like to present their art to the public. This understanding helps them discover how they can contribute to the arts communities of Charleston and beyond.”
