For former Charleston resident and artist Ruth Heffron, refuge resides in nature’s subtleties, where “beauty and balance” coincide, replacing the commotions of daily life with reflective moments. In her first solo exhibit, “Finding Grace: New Works in Oil by Ruth Heffron,” the artist’s reflections—inspired by landscapes spanning the globe: South Carolina, Maine, Texas, Canada, Europe, and elsewhere—are transplanted onto canvas through masterful use of space, color, and form, coupled accordingly with her emotion and instinct. “In my work, I want to pay homage to nature, to, as nearly as possible, let the subject speak for itself while also communicating the way I see and feel it,” says Heffron.
