“Brilliant!: Modern & Special Purpose Lighting”
In the second installment of this enlightening exhibit, The Charleston Museum explores the evolution of lighting techniques from the mid-19th century to the 20th century, including the production of kerosene, the introduction of gas lighting, and the invention of the incandescent lightbulb. Be sure to check out the collection of chandeliers that were converted to accommodate kerosene, then gas, and finally electricity. Also, have fun exploring the special purpose lamps made for bicycles, carriages, automobiles, railroads, miners, police, and more.
