“Ancestry & Innovation”
Unravel the stories that African American artists past and present have woven into quilts, shaped into sculptures, and painted across canvases, often using self-taught skills and the most basic materials. This kaleidoscope of significant pieces includes work by elder artists such as Bessie Harvey and Sam Doyle (a St. Helena Island resident), contemporary master Thornton Dial Sr., and emerging artists like Willie LeRoy Elliott.
