Thomas Heyward Jr., one of four South Carolina signers of the Declaration of Independence, occupied the Heyward-Washington House around 1772. In this special program, museum guests can explore artifacts from his property with curator Martha Zierden and chief of education Stephanie Thomas as they lead a discussion on the slaves who formerly occupied the kitchen building. This intimate look at the archaeology of a historic Charleston home brings the past to light with engaging stories and open conversation. Part of the museum’s ongoing series, the event is included in the cost of admission. Heyward-Washington House, 87 Church St. Friday, 10:30-11:30am. $12; $10 ages 13-17; free for child under three/member. (843)722-2996, www.thecharlestonmusum.org
