The Art of Alfred Hutty: Woodstock to Charleston
Come quickly, have found heaven.” Supposedly master painter and printmaker Alfred Hutty wired those words to his wife upon visiting Charleston for the first time in 1920. Hutty—originally from Woodstock, New York—established himself in the city, becoming an integral part of the community of artists who launched the Charleston Renaissance. Visit the Gibbes to see more than 50 of Hutty’s watercolor, oil, and pastel paintings, along with his historical prints of Woodstock and Charleston. Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St. Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm; Sunday, 1-5pm. $9; $7 senior/student/military; $5 ages six-12; free for child under six. (843)722-2706, www.gibbesmuseum.org
