Jill Hooper: Contemporary Realist
This month, peruse 28 recent works by Charleston resident Jill Hooper, the classically trained painter recognized internationally for her vibrant portraits (Pugnis et Calcibus even hung in London’s National Portrait Gallery). On January 20, “Jill Hooper: Contemporary Realist” premieres at the Gibbes Museum, where 41-year-old Hooper is the youngest living artist to have her work collected. Viewers can admire large-scale landscapes, still-lifes, and portraits as well as drawings that offer a glimpse into the artist’s creative process. Locals are likely to recognize some faces on the wall, including artist Hirona Matsuda.
